ACEO The Princess and the Frog by Achen089 ACEO The Princess and the Frog by Achen089
My take on The Frog Prince fairytale, in a renaissance twist. :D
No iconic kissing scene though as i based it on one of the original versions in which the princess is not only a spoiled brat but also a little aggressive and throws the frog against the wall at some point. This (or the shock most probably) causes his transformation to a conveniently handsome young prince and the princess has a change of heart and marries him then and there. Now why would he want to marry her is a mystery but you know, there are far more weird unions and endings in some of those fairytales. :O

Pencil, watercolours, white and gold acrylic, 6.4 x 8.9 cm (2.5 x 3.5 inches).

You can see the rest of this fairytale collection here -> achen089.deviantart.com/galler…

The frog was squeezed by the princess. Mistakenly. Pity...

According to Maria Tartar in her collection of "Annotated Grimm's Fairytales", the frog represents male genitalia and the princess's actions toward the frog symbolizes a young maiden's disgust and horror upon seeing said genitalia.

This is beautiful.

And she since did indeed have a change of heart, let's not be cynical and just appreciate the romance and magic of the story :).

I hope you don't mind but I included your Princess and the Frog illustration in a reading of the Grimm Brothers tale found here: [link]

I included your deviantart name in the credits and a link to your deviation.

wow, the expression is just perfect! The slightly lifted eyebrow, the direction in which she is looking, the slightly turned head and the upper lip - so subtle, but they show so well what she's thinking and what a spoiled brat she is :D

Why does everyone need to be cynical and call her names? It's a fairytale and should be looked at from a happy, idealistic perspective. Enjoy the romance and magic without the negativity :)!

Someone else wonders why in the world he wanted to marry her after she a) broke her promise, b) treated him like something she'd stepped in and c) flung him against a wall? Yay, I am not alone in the world! :) Just curious, did you also question why Snow White didn't marry the servant who dropped her coffin and jostled the poisoned apple out of her mouth instead of the prince who wanted to take a dead 14 year old girl home with him as a souvenir? That would be an interesting scene to see fanart of, lol.

Your art is amazing, by the way. Keep up the excellent work!

Oh, yes, the Lady Lucrezia was very pretty. She was also a devoted daughter, sister, wife and mother. The play by Victor Hugo that inspired the opera by Donizetti is so full of malice and falsehood that both Hugo and Donizetti deserve to be sued for slander.

Hugo wanted to be the Shakespeare of France; instead all he succeeded in writing were farces so ludicrous that they can be well regarded as masterpieces of unintentional comedy.

I definitely used that "spoiled princess" character to my advantage when I wrote my fairy tale mashup. Only the change of heart wasn't instant. It took time.
